Renfrewshire Community Health Initiative

Aims to improve health in the community by working with men, women & young people to address, amongst other health issues: healthy living, physical activity & nutrition awareness. Our aim is to improve health choices within the community by promoting healthy living activity and positive lifestyle options.

Health Directions

This is a project within RCHI working in the regeneration areas of: Johnstone West, Foxbar, Glenburn, Thrushcraigs, Blackhall, Millarston, Ferguslie Park , West End , Cart Corridor, Gallowhill and Moorpark in Renfrew.

  • It enables communities to:
  • develop activities which promote healthy living
  • & tackle health inequalities
  • influence the strategies, policies & service of the main agencies
  • improve knowledge, skills & understanding of health issues

The Health Directions Project operates with support from Renfrewshire's Community Planning Partnership, the Scottish Executive's Community Regeneration Fund and NHS.

The project works to:

  • Raise awareness
  • Provide information & resources
  • Hold practical sessions, that are appropriate for individual & group needs
  • Provide health assessments
  • Enable community development
  • Develop & support community groups

Health Assessment Programme (HAP)

HAP is a tool that RCHI uses to assess fitness and as a measure of wellbeing. It is an excellent starting block for assisting people in identifying areas of their own health where they would like to make changes and require support.

The Microfit system has been utilised by health & fitness experts around the world since 1986.

This equipment provides profiles for:

  • Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Aerobic fitness

Wellness

  • Diet
  • Exercise
  • Smoking
  • Stress
  • Safety
